The longstanding and historical rivalry between these two teams promises an exciting game for NFL football betting fans.  The Gang Green, looking for a successful season under the helm of quarterback Mark Sanchez, who is in only his second season as a NFL quarterback.  Sanchez achieved remarkable success last season, leading the Jets over the then-undefeated Indianapolis Colts, 29-15, and then carrying his team into the playoffs.  As a rookie, Sanchez achieved a playoff victory against the Cincinnati Bengals, becoming the fourth rookie in the NFL history books to win in his first playoff appearance.

However, Sanchez finished his rookie season with only 12 touchdowns and 20 interceptions, which by all standards is pitiful.  But somehow, he was able to get the Jets the needed victories, and all eyes will be on him as the 2010 season begins to see just how he will fare.

On the other side of the ball is a team that is very familiar with beginning the season on a hot streak, only to lose it too soon and be eliminated from the postseason. The New York Giants began the 2009 regular season by winning their first five games before losing to the New Orleans Saints.  And it was all downhill from there.  The Giants then went on to lose their next four games and finished the season a dismal 8-8.

This season, the team hopes to add a defensive dimension to its powerful offense with the hiring of the Buffalo Bills former interim head coach, Perry Fewell. Led by quarterback Eli Manning and wide out Steve Smith, who achieved a team record of 107 receptions last season, the Giants know they have a solid foundation to play deep into the postseason and with success, as they did just three seasons ago when the team won Super Bowl XLII.

The Jets are favored in this game because they finished the 2009 season much stronger than the Giants did.  Although it is true that each season presents a new beginning, NFL football betting fans can likely rely on the surging Jets to continue where they left off last season and continually improve throughout the upcoming season.  The Giants, however, will have to turn things around completely to have much success this year.
